A Bath?

The world says, “Calgon, take me away” and “Beam me up, Scotty.” Does that sound like a good idea to you? Learn how to take care of you when you are a wife, mother, housewife, and homeschooler.

I remember some ads that were directed to mothers when I was a girl. They were all about a weary mother sinking down into a tub of warm water and fragrant bubbles. The ads were saying that she could get away from it all: children, husband, housework, and responsibilities, if she would just take a bath.

Now, obviously a warm bath is a good way to rest for many mothers. And while it will allow you to take a breather and set aside your responsibilities for a while, does it truly recharge your batteries?

I find that as much as I love a good long soak in the tub, when I get out I am more relaxed and ready for bed. I believe that taking a bath to get away from it all is like that old country and western song, “looking for love in all the wrong places.” In order to truly relax and recharge your batteries when yours are low, you are going to have to do something other than simply take a bath. Let me share with you two reasons baths won’t renew you.

First of all, bath water will clean us on the outside, but it’s not the water that will cleanse, renew, and refresh. Those are things that take place inside our bodies, in our hearts.Of course, the water that we all need is the Living Water of His Word. We can fill our bathtub with tap water, but His Water is the only water that will fill our need.So not only is a bathtub full of the wrong kind of water you need to recharge, it is also something that you do with an inward focus, when what God desires for us is to have an outward focus. He says if you give it all up, you will get it all, plus more!So give up what you think you want and serve your family with a smile. Instead of thinking about what you need, change your focus to look for what they need. What will make their life easier, more pleasant, and more productive? Think on these things.Love, Love, Love,
