Little By Little

“You may say to yourselves, these nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out? But do not be afraid,” Deuteronomy 7:17.

Okay, so here are the Israelites about to enter into the land that God has promised them, but they are not finding friendly faces. Instead, what they see are cities with walls and barbarians. God might have promised them this land, but He didn’t say it would be easy, because they are looking at overwhelming obstacles and wilt-in-your-steps challenges. They are facing things that can paralyze action. Have you ever felt defeated before you are even engaged in the battle?

Just looking at the challenges can chain us up with discouragement.

Verse 22 goes on to say this, “Do not be terrified by them for the Lord your God is among you, and He’s a great and awesome God. The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little.”

So how do you face your giants or overwhelming tasks and get them dealt with? Right here God answers the question all mothers face, “Little by little.” God will win this battle with you and for you, but not in one great victory. God’s battle plan for you to handle the overwhelming instead is little by little.

Big pictures can make you feel small and ineffective. So break it up into daily chunks—manageable little pieces. Don’t decide to be happy every day. Just decide to make this day a good day and let Jesus be the Lord of what is undone at the end of that day.

He promised He would give you His strength in daily doses. He said, “Your strength will equal your days.” On Monday you won’t have the strength for Friday. If you try to run ahead of your strength, you’ll sink.

Maybe you’ve been wondering how you’ll ever get dinner made and math done. Maybe you’re trying to beat some sin that’s been beating you. Maybe your marriage needs healing, more than you feel like you can handle. Instead of setting out to win the war, just win the battle for one day. Tomorrow you can shoot for another 24-hour victory, but don’t worry about that today. Just give God one day and then the next and then the day after that. He’ll make a life of wonderful successful days out of it.

Ladies, being a wife, mother, homemaker, and follower of Jesus is the sum total of a thousand little victories one day at a time.

What little victories are you celebrating today?

A timely reminder today. Thank you. I had forgotten how to eat an elephant, one bite at a time. Many blessings to you and yours.

I am not sure how to respond to this one Lorrie. To be quite honest I am feeling defeated by a giant today. I am really not doing well with this today. As I pray and search the scripture I am not finding anything to hold onto. I hate these types of lessons from the Lord, but I will pray for a teachable heart and face the things ahead of me.

Keep speaking the truth to yourself. Whether or not it applies to your certain situation or not. Find a truth from God the you KNOW without a doubt and keep telling yourself that. Hopefully one truth will encourage you

Thank you, Lorrie. Last year was really hard in a lot of ways. I very much needed the encouragement to get up and use His strength to do it again, little by little. Bless you.

Just as God reminded us through Paul…” forgetting what is behind and looking unto Jesus”. (not quoted exactly, but you get the idea)
