Praying Scripture

I want to share with you something I learned years ago from Elisabeth Elliott.
Before reading and studying your Bible in the morning, you can pray some scripture verses to help you settle into the presence of the Lord. This prayer is taken from various Psalms:

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your Law. Give me understanding and I will keep Your Law and obey it with all my heart. Show me Your ways, O Lord. Teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me. For You are God, my Savior; and my hope is in You all day long. That which I see not, teach me. If I have done iniquity, if I have sinned, I will do it no more.

I remember hearing her share that as she prayed that prayer, the Lord answered it. I tried it and found out she was right. This prayer prepares my heart so that I find myself anticipating what is to come.

If you visualize this prayer as you handing God a blank sheet of paper, signing your name to it and asking Him to fill in the details with His will for you, you get your priorities in order—you are letting Him drive the car. It is saying “yes” to God before He even gives you your marching orders.
